An exhibit of Middlebury artist Steve Parlato’s anti-racism collage series “They Are Not Disposable” is being presented through July 14 in the Marie Louise Trichet Art Gallery at Wisdom House.
“This moving collection is more than visual art—each piece is a heartfelt tribute, a call to justice, and a story waiting to be witnessed,” Wisdom House says on its website.
Steven Parlato’s work invites viewers to reflect on systemic racism, the lives lost to racial violence, and the urgent need for remembrance and action, Wisdom House says. A poet, novelist, and theater artist as well, Parlato brings a storyteller’s sensitivity to his visual work. With each collage, he honors the individual humanity of those represented, encouraging us to learn their names, feel their absence, and carry their stories forward.
