Renée Jaworski, a leader of the modern dance company Pilobolus and a resident of Litchfield, will be honored April 2 with a Connecticut Arts Hero Award.

The Connecticut Arts Awards event celebrates the courageous creativity of extraordinary Connecticut residents who are engaged in and supporting the arts.

The celebration honoring nine Connecticut Arts Heroes and four Emerging Creatives will be held April 2 at 6 p.m. at Infinity Hall in Hartford. It is free and open to all. Visit the event page to register to attend.

The Arts Awards page describes Jaworski’s accomplishments like this:

Renée has been a driving force in dance at Pilobolus since 2000, captivating audiences as a performer and shaping the company’s artistic and educational evolution. As Executive/Co-Artistic Director she has expanded Pilobolus’s reach by working closely with Education Director Emily Kent to develop groundbreaking educational programs across Connecticut and the country, while also collaborating with Artistic Director Matt Kent on innovative, world-renowned choreography and productions—from the Academy Awards to OK Go’s Grammy®-nominated video. Their work on Round House Theatre’s The Tempest, directed by Aaron Posner and Teller, earned Pilobolus the Helen Hayes Award for Best Choreography in a Play, affirming her visionary approach to dance, theater, and arts education—something she is proud to foster as a Connecticut artist.

According to Jaworski’s bio on the Pilobolus website, she received her BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and then worked with MOMIX, performing and teaching throughout the world, as well as creating her own work in Philadelphia. She began performing with Pilobolus in 2000. In 2010, her alma mater honored her with the university’s Silver Star Alumni Award for her work as an artist in the field of dance.

She lives in Litchfield with her husband and daughter.

Those being honored this year were chosen from among more than 100 nominations.

The Connecticut Arts Awards are presented by the Connecticut Office of the Arts, a division of the department of Economic & Community Development.
