Architecture of Litchfield

Litchfield’s historic streets are filled with stories—and some of those stories are told in the buildings themselves.

The Litchfield Historical Society’s Architecture of Litchfield walking tour offers a chance to slow down, look more closely, and discover how the town’s architecture reflects the lives, ambitions, and choices of the people who lived here. The approximately one-hour walk explores the Historic District and the stories preserved in its homes and buildings.

The next Architecture of Litchfield walking tour is Sunday, August 2, at 1:00 p.m., beginning at the Litchfield History Museum at 7 South Street.

Whether you have lived in Litchfield for decades or are visiting for the first time, the tour offers a fresh way to experience a familiar landscape. The architectural details we pass every day—from the design of a house to the choices made by the people who built and lived in it—can reveal a surprising amount about Litchfield’s past.

And if you enjoy seeing Litchfield through a different creative lens, there’s another walking tour coming up just one week later.

The Historical Society’s Artists of Litchfield walking tour returns Sunday, August 9, at 1:00 p.m., inviting participants to experience the Historic District through the eyes of artists from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with their words, sketches, and paintings offering a unique perspective on the town’s streetscapes.

Together, the two tours offer a wonderful way to see Litchfield in a new light: one through the buildings that have shaped its history, and the other through the eyes of artists who found inspiration in its beauty.
