Charlie Dumais was one of the original members of the Litchfield Arts Council, but his business growth bloomed, and he had to devote himself to managing his well-earned good luck.
Dumais Made sells to the trade and also has a showroom in the Bantam Arts Factory, where they have taken over a significant amount of space.
A bright, clean, lean, and calm feeling is present in the studio and showroom.
The pieces are elegant and look deceptively simple, but that belies the intricate details of the canvas texture in the surfaces of his vases and lamp bases created by the slab rollers. It is a novel and delightful choice, in this writer’s opinion.
New designs come organically from Charlie and his husband Kevin’s experiences: a most authentic way to create.
The new boutique hotel restoration of Rose Haven on North Street, in the center of Litchfield, will feature Dumais Made lighting and mirrors throughout.
Charlie was incredibly generous and gave us 27 minutes of his story. His educational background, his influences, his process, and his latest travel to Puglia that resulted in a new design inspired by the ceramicist he and Kevin met there.
We will be featuring the full interview on our YouTube channel. Stay tuned!
